C罗在世界杯前与曼联解约后，去向成谜，之后他获得了一些邀请，其中沙特利雅得胜利开出超巨年薪邀请C罗，但被C罗拒绝了。

盛传C罗是介意无法踢顶级比赛包括欧冠才断然拒绝。

不过根据《每日邮报》报道，C罗之所以拒绝沙特的邀请，是因为不想为葡萄牙申办世界杯的对手摇旗呐喊。

目前有多个国家申办2030年世界杯，其中就包括了葡萄牙和西班牙联合申办，以及沙特、埃及和希腊联合申办两大阵容。

由于沙特邀请C罗，不只是想让他踢球，更重要的是还想让他担任申办世界杯的形象大使。这样的话，C罗将与自己的祖国正面竞争。考虑到自己在葡萄牙的地位以及形象，C罗当然无法接受这样的邀请。
